We can't spend the rest of our lives asking if it's AI or not

Cow looking at the see with the caption 'I can't go the rest of my life asking if its AI or not'

There is a certain type of person who fetishises human creativity, which I see as a lowkey version of the great man theory of history. It's almost as if they've a) never heard of Brian Eno's idea of scenius, nor b) understood that "we shape our tools, and then our tools shape us".

Whether we're talking about disinformation, creativity, or moral fibre, what these fetishisers don't understand is that tools are amplifiers rather than causal agents. AI doesn't cause disinformation. AI doesn't make people more or less creative. AI isn't inherently more or less objectively 'ethical'.

So rather than trying to police the world, I've chosen to live my values (which are different to my ethics) rather than trying to police other people.

Differences between values and ethics

They're using AI? Cool, what's the difference in practice to the outcome? Let's work backwards from there.
