An analogue desk

I've long been an advocate of 'islands of productivity'. It's a fancy way of saying that it's a good idea, for me at least, to do different kinds of things in different spaces.

So, for example, I go to coffee shops and to the library. But I also sit in what we affectionately call our 'spare lounge' (because we're not posh enough to need/want a dining room) and do things on my laptop.

I was reminded recently of Austin Kleon's exhortation for creative people to have both a digital desk and an analogue desk. In other words, separate spaces for different kinds of work.

So today I went to IKEA with some measurements and a pretty clear idea of what I wanted. And I ended up with the setup you see in the pictures above.

I can swivel round from my sit/stand desk where my computer is to a clean, clear space for analogue work. Is it an accident that my computer setup is entirely black and silver and my analogue setup is white and wood/cork?

Of course not. Oh, and I also bought an air purifier because you always leave IKEA with something you didn't realise you wanted when you went in...
