Events shortlist: June 2026 to February 2027
I've decided that I want to go to more in-person events, so I got my Little Robot Friend to come up with some options.
English-language, European (or noted otherwise), aligned with digital sovereignty, decentralised and federated systems, open education, digital credentials, systems thinking, co-ops and the commons. Wildcards and strong fits are labelled.
Summer 2026
- 22 to 23 June — OER26, Open University, Milton Keynes. Open education. Imminent, likely closing.
- 29 June to 3 July — FOSS4G Europe, Timișoara. Open-source geospatial. Wildcard, off your core.
- 8 to 12 July — DWeb Camp: Root Systems, Alte Hölle, Germany. Decentralised web. Strong fit.
- 13 to 19 July — EuroPython, Kraków. Python community. Wildcard.
- 16 to 21 July — GUADEC, A Coruña. GNOME community. Wildcard.
- 21 to 25 July — Wikimania, Paris. Open knowledge. In-person sign-up likely closed; virtual open.
Autumn 2026

- 20 to 21 October — ALT conference, Cardiff. Learning technology, open education.
- 28 to 30 October — MozFest, Barcelona. Tech and society. Proposal already submitted.
- 12 November — Map Camp workshop, London. Systems thinking, future of work. Strong fit. (tickets)
- 13 to 14 November — SFSCON, Bolzano. Free software, sovereignty, open education, fediverse. Strong fit; arguably the best on the list.
- 17 to 19 November — DPGA Annual Members Meeting, Europe (city to be confirmed). Digital public goods. Strong fit for your DPG work.
Year-end and Q1 2027
- 9 to 10 December — Open Source Experience, Paris. Theme: sovereignty, resilience, innovation.
- 27 to 30 December — 40C3, Hamburg. Tech, society, digital rights, self-hosting. Strong fit. Tickets sell out fast.
- Late January to early February (to confirm) — FOSDEM 2027, Brussels, with the Social Web devroom as your fediverse anchor, and EU Open Source Week plus the EU Open Source Policy Summit clustered around it.
- 9 to 10 February — State of Open Con (SOOCon27), London, as FOSDEM fringe. Easiest of the cluster from Northumberland.
Watch list (dates pending)
- ePIC 2027 — biennial after Paris 2025, historically October, so likely autumn 2027. (conference site)
- Protocols for Publishers (London), Software Heritage Symposium (Paris), FediForum Spring (online) — all recur around January to February; 2027 dates not yet out.
Deadlines (soonest first)
- SFSCON call for speakers and call for workshops close 30 June (about ten days, and the best on-theme fit, so the priority).
- Nextcloud call for speakers closes 15 July.
- Map Camp tickets on sale now and go early.
