The Avatar in Chief
This is absolutely incredible from Lance Robertson:
I made a short speculative film as my final project for a course on Deepfakes and Synthetic Media that I took this quarter at UC San Diego, as part of my Speculative Design major.
"The Avatar in Chief" is a fake 60 Minutes segment set in 2037, reporting on the first U.S. president who governs through a synthetic AI avatar of herself — one that talks to millions of constituents a day and feeds what it hears back into policy. Everything in it is synthetic: the correspondent, the president, the locations, and even some of the "archival" footage.
It's built to ask a specific question: what happens after we stop debating whether this technology should exist and start living inside the world it makes? The piece borrows the credibility of a trusted news format — one that is actively being undermined in real life, and in real time.
